This is why it is important to not leave a hint, whisper, speck, piece, crumb, fleck, scrap, tidbit, spot, bit, or morsel of food anywhere indoors in Thailand.
I ate a bag of chips at my desk.
The next day I had swarms of ants. They were in my desk drawer and on top of my desk, walking back and forth between the two places. I had no idea why they were there, until I moved that stack of papers aside and saw....the teeny tiny top corner of my bag of chips. When I was eating I was very careful not to make a mess, knowing full well that ants would have loved me for it, but who would have thought that they would be so attracted to a piece of garbage?
A lovely student cleaned up the ants (she offered!), and the next day they were all gone, as if they were never there to begin with. We've seen this happen a few times in our apartments as well. Out here you have to be so careful not to make a mess no matter what you are eating!
A good habit to bring back home perhaps?
Do they get into all of your stuff as well? Do you have to worry about getting ants in your pants...
ReplyDeleteYes, the ants will go in your pants if you are not careful. Some of my students seem to have ants in their pants as well.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, they get everywhere. I have found them crawling around the inside of my purse, and a friend this weekend found them crawling around the inside of her razor.
